Music Related Tidbits
For some strange reason, even though I have been MIA all last week, I am having trouble coming up with one solid theme for an article. As a result, here are some music related tidbits that have been bouncing around in my mind.
I have been completely addicted to the Chiddy Bang Remix of “Under the Sheets” by Ellie Goulding. Well, let me rephrase; I’ve been addicted to the beginning of that song. I am talking about that mixture of clearly emotional vocals, simple yet solid percussion, and electronic touches to the beat. I LOVE it. Can’t get enough really. But something about the rest of the song is not quite right. I don’t even mind the first verse of rhymes and the following chorus. However, it feels like the song after that loses a lot of its luster. All of a sudden it gets away from the flow it had established in the beginning.
I really can’t think of any other songs that progressively got worse the way that this one does, at least to my humble ears. Have a listen yourself; what do you think?
Going to the Movies
I have been watching quite a few movies recently and have delved into music related documentaries. I am actually planning to use one of them for my next article so I don’t want to get into the details of which ones I have seen. I will say though, those movies really serve as an excellent reminder to us all about the true “down to earth” element of all of our favorite artists. Just listening to the struggles they had to go through to get to where they are can really help draw parallels to many of the struggles all us normal folk go through on a day to day. Working hard to be recognized, dealing with rejection, dealing with apathy from the people you hope would appreciate your art the most, and finding a way to get over all of that and still live life. If you have a favorite artist or genre, at the very least I recommend you take a look to see if there is a documentary out there about them. You are definitely bound to learn something new.
At the risk of being accused of playing favorites, I just wanted to say that Psaphyre has been working on an awesome track entitled Loss of Hope. You have to listen to this. It’s a moody track with bounce. I can’t get enough of this type of stuff.
Music You Don’t Always Listen To
I have been spending a lot of time on the kickstarter website since I started posting for PowderMyNoise and I am always blown away by how many different music related projects are out there. Even speciality stuff, like soundtrack and ambient sounds, are all over the place. My time on kickstarter has changed from just research for articles to looking for new projects I personally want to see made. I highly recommend you do the same.
